I live and die by the Gibbs and Danny plugs in hunting big stripers

They work best after dark and up to dawn. They will also work well in the daytime during the fall. I follow the basic rules of: " the lighter the conditions the lighter the plug - the darker the conditions, the darker the plug. For the 3-3/4 oz plugs, I generally use White Danny's, Yellow Danny's, Blue dannys, ALL Black Danny's and the specially made Brown plugs, which have been the best producer over the past few years.

For the Gibbs swimmers, I use the Blue 3 oz plugs, which has been the best plug ever over my 32 years of plug fishing, Yellow plugs in July, especially on the full moon and lighter tided and the Parrot Plug (we jokingly call is the Green Banana) on the full moon in Sept.

I generally re-hook the Gibbs and Danny plugs by putting a 7/0 treble on the front swivel and a 5/0 on the middle swivel. These bigger hooks help hold the larger fish and also keep the plug from rolling over in the tide.

I also use the 2 oz Danny plugs on the surface (flat line) in the evening and at dawn. I usually use white but sometimes choose either yellow or brown if the light conditions dictate. I also use the 2 oz plugs in Blue, Brown, and Black in the Early mornings in the fall in Quicks Hole (N tide only just after the moons). I re hook them to make it easier to deal with the blue fish. I keep the factory provided tail hook but replace the (2) 3/0 vmc hooks with (1) 5/0 or 6/0 treble hook on the front swivel. This big hook keeps the plug from rolling over in the tide.
